Station Manager, KWLP

Terri Hutchens is currently the Station Manager of KWLP, 100.9 FM, Peach Springs, Arizona. KWLP is the first Tribal priority commercial FM station in the country. Terri is pleased and privileged to have been the first station manager to successfully navigate this new F.C.C. process, as an employee of and for the Hualapai Tribe. She has been with the Hualapai Tribe since 2008, first as an in home counselor, then a youth and wellness radio grant project coordinator and now as KWLP’s station manager. Terri had no previous academic studies or experience related to radio. She was “thrown in the river to learn to swim!” She has a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Social Work from the University of Washington, Seattle and a Juris Doctorate degree from Northwestern School of Law, Lewis and Clark College, Portland, OR.

She has over 25 years experience working in social sciences; law; fields combining the two, such as mediation; and in executive and administrative capacities, including program design and implementation; collaboration and grant and budget writing and management. As KWLP’s station manager she wears many hats including: station general manager, programming director, traffic, volunteer coordinator, advertising sales, DJ, back-up technical operations, production support and website and social media management. She participates in the Hualapai community as a volunteer mediator and advocate; serves on numerous boards and committees serving youth and targeting wellness in the Peach Springs community, and as a “Goda:” maternal Grandmother to a beautiful and bright 3 y.o Hualapai Tribal member.
