Organizational capacity undergirds everything. NFCB helps you make your organizational capacity even better.

The 2019 Community Media Conference takes place June 18-20, in San Diego. Organized in four tracks — engagement, content, revenue, and organizational capacity – the organizational capacity track will help you with the big picture issues you’re facing.

Organizational capacity sessions include:

  • Managing the People in People-Powered Media – Human Resources and Community Media. In this intensive, attendees will learn about core practices for optimum human resource management, such as mediation and conflict resolution, safe/civil workplaces, individual evaluations and smart hiring. Along the way, Jeannie Smith will answer your most perplexing questions and guide you through solutions.
  • Emergency Preparedness for Community Radio. Our panel of experts will show you how they have connected with area first responders, put themselves in the mix during disaster response, and offered innovations like text-based emergency alerts on a variety of platforms, including smart car dashboards and mobile phones. You’ll come away with new ways your station can be involved in emergency preparedness; in cultivating financial support for your initiatives; and how to make the biggest difference possible with the fewest resources.
  • Managing Amid Resistance & Conflict. Communication challenges are something we all face every day, maybe several times a day, especially at stations governed by volunteer boards and programmed predominately by volunteers. KZMU’s General Manager, Serah Mead, will lead a session about different types of resistance that happen in an organizational setting.
  • Creating Your Strategic Plan. Join this session to learn about how to organize a strategic planning effort at your station and leave with the tools and resources to help you implement and evaluate your plan. The days of nonprofits being able to drift without a strategic plan are over. This session will help you make a plan and provide guidance on how to work through it, so that you can move the dial and do your best work.

And more. See the full schedule here.
