Sonya Green is an award-winning multi-media journalist, public speaker and media educator who epitomizes Southern hospitality. She grew up in North Carolina with a ministerial father and an entrepreneurial no-nonsense mother who both encouraged her to always speak her truth. She credits their influence alongside that of her great-grandmother, Mary Lily, for her path to journalism.

Green recently graduated from the Knight-Wallace Journalism Fellowship at the University of Michigan where she researched how language, attitudes and approaches in journalism narratives can perpetuate stereotypes about race, class and identity. Green saw early on as a teenager coming of age in a racist environment how journalism narratives can shape the attitudes of a community. She took those lessons with her and consistently explored this in her work as a journalist across platforms. She has given keynote speeches, served on panels and moderated discussions on the issue of race and media.

Sonya has experience working in public and commercial media. She most recently served as the Interim Assistant General Manager at 91.3 KBCS radio station in Bellevue/Seattle, WA. She also has worked at local ABC affiliate television stations in Seattle and Denver. Green has served on the media advisory board for the South Seattle Emerald. She was named the 2011 Woman of the Year by the Bellevue chapter of the Business and Professional Women. Sonya is the Board President for the National Federation of Community Broadcasters.
