Success can be financial investment from a prospective partner after the perfect pitch. Or training your cat to utilize the cat scratcher you bought vs. your super cool vintage record player console. Whatever the form it takes, certainty and consistency are key.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Shannon spent her “past life” developing operations for a corporation that landed her in San Francisco. From the corporate demands harping on that bottom line, to beating the pavement with her camera in tow during The Great Recession in 2008, she discovered the importance of being genuine when going out and “gettin’ it”. She defines genuity as having sincere knowledge, understanding, and passion about what your message is or task at hand.
Residing in Lincoln, Nebraska, since 2009, Shannon has fallen in love with the sense of community. Currently the Development Director at KZUM, she is utilizing both her creative and operational experiences. Shannon, along with her peers, transformed a radio station that was playing it way too safe, into a growing, in-demand community media resource for its city and beyond. Shannon recognized that community engagement was crucial for the station to move beyond the safety net it had been tucked in to.
Through certainty and consistency, and a few sunburns, the station pushed itself to partner and support as many community events and initiatives as possible in recent years. The goal? To increase its visibility, as well as develop new and informative on-air and online content. In doing this, KZUM has now forged prosperous partnerships and devised interactive educational programs, The results have included crushing fundraising goals, soaring online interactivity and a reignited love life with their community.
Today, Shannon works on keeping up with “all the things,” soundtracked by Janelle Monae’s latest album, “Dirty Computer.” And still trying to implement that cat scratcher.
