Before your station uses the name of the championship football game on air, please remember that “Super Bowl” and “Super Sunday” are registered trademarks carefully protected by the National Football League.

Permissible fair uses of Super Bowl and Super Sunday include on-air banter, news and sports reports may refer to the NFL championship game as the Super Bowl, since that is the event’s proper name. However, do not mention the Super Bowl on the air in such a way that the listener may infer a relationship between your station and the NFL that does not exist.

In addition, promotional announcements or tie-ins by underwriters or for station promotions are not allowed, i.e. “Station Super Bowl Party” or “Area Store Super Sunday Sell-off.”
