How do you present the many passionate voices locally and stay within Federal Communications Commission and Internal Revenue Service rules? How do you make elections coverage central to your station, while staying educational? What about things like music about candidates?

In a January webinar, veteran attorneys Melodie Virtue and Brad Deutsch of the firm Foster Garvey discussed political broadcasting for community radio. The duo offered their extensive knowledge of the regulations related to what is permissible for radio stations during an election season. Plus, they answered questions such as what constitutes a candidate appearance, what is exempt from political broadcasting rules, and what about calendar announcements on community radio.

This webinar and slides are available in the Solution Center. Member stations may log in anytime. If your station is not an NFCB member, you can request membership information here.
