Effective November 13, 2017, the FCC changed the rules pertaining to third party fundraising. The new rules permit noncommercial broadcasters that are not affiliated with NPR (National Public Radio) or CPB (Corporation for Public Broadcasting) to raise funds for nonprofit third parties for a limited amount of the station’s broadcast time, specifically up to one percent of a station’s total airtime.
Prior to these rules changes, stations could receive a waiver to do fundraising during emergencies and disasters.
