If your station transmits a false EAS alert or does so on accident, did you know your station must inform the FCC no later than 24 hours of actual knowledge of such a transmission?
Among the new regulations before stations are rules related to Emergency Alert System tones and recordkeeping. In mid-August, the Federal Communications Commission announced a nearly $400,000 fine for ABC over non-emergency use of EAS tones.
To report broadcast of a false alert, member stations can get more information in the Solution Center, NFCB’s knowledgebase for community radio. If your radio station is not yet an NFCB member station, you can access the Solution Center when you join now.
