Engaging listeners on and off air is crucial to community radio. NFCB’s upcoming conference offers a chance to strengthen your engagement endeavors.

The 2019 Community Media Conference takes place June 18-20, in San Diego. Organized in four tracks — engagement, content, revenue, and organizational capacity – the engagement track will help you connect with your audience.

Engagement sessions include:

  • Get It: Spice Up Your Station’s Love Life with the Community. From adding staff and a multi-media internship program, to building a second production studio, KZUM’s unique community engagement efforts have created growth. KZUM’s Shannon Claire shows how you can do it at your station, too.
  • Digital Strategy for Audience Engagement. KUNC Digital Editor/Producer Ashley Jefcoat will show you her proven techniques for how to focus those efforts to make the most impact. From trends in social and digital media, to podcasting, smart speakers and apps, you’ll leave with actionable ideas and strategies to help you maximize your resources and get your digital game running like a top.
  • Optimizing Your Brand Through Events. Events are key to stations’ community engagement and revenue goals, yet there are many horror stories of events gone wrong. How do you assess your resources and do events well? Our panel of experts will share winning strategies for events that are not about big cash, but rather about deep engagement.
  • Volunteer Engagement in All-Volunteer Stations and Beyond. This session will show your station how to identify projects that your community of volunteers can achieve and that your community of listeners will appreciate. Speakers will also share how to train and develop project leaders to ensure success.
