Name: Llu Mulvaney-Stanak
Station/Affiliation: Central Vermont Community Radio – WGDR/WGDH
Position: Station Manager
Relevant Experience:
Public and community radio is at a critical moment. We are facing attacks and challenges unique to right now — federal defunding, natural disasters, media use fatigue, attacks on journalism, and the impact of AI and algorithm tuning us out. Each of these challenges need community and public media as a tools of response, respite, and, when required, resistance to the attack on our democracy. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for! — on the air, behind the scenes, and standing alongside our communities. Rising to this moment takes steady leadership, creativity, and strategy. Member stations look to NFCB as the steady leaders to help us deal with localized or national issues.
I am eager to join the board to do my part to help. I would bring over three decades of nonprofit leadership (at a Director level and board level), community organizing chops, and community radio experience to the board. My lived experience as a queer, gender queer person and a parent, helps me experience the world and show up in a way that I think makes me a empathetic and creative teammate.
For the last four years, I’ve lead WGDR/WGDH in Vermont. We’ve come through station ownership transition to independence, numerous critical incidents and regional emergencies, and built a station culture and capacity that is focused on a vibrant future for the station and our community. I’ve also built a LPFM station. We got WBTV-LP on the air back in 2017 here in Vermont and I understand what it takes to go from idea to action for new stations. I want to bring this same, “roll up our sleeves and let’s go energy” to the NFCB board.
