Your station’s regulatory files can be costly if you don’t keep them updated.

The Federal Communications Commission has issued five fines to South Carolina stations in a commercial radio network for failure to keep public files updated. Specifically, there were missing Issues/Programs Reports, which the stations self-reported as part of their renewal. You can read details of the fines here.

Full-power stations are required to maintain a public file, while low-power FM stations are required to retain different documents. In addition, the FCC has set a deadline for full-power stations to convert to the new electronic public file system.

For noncommercial radio, if you have questions about the public file or the new system, please remember NFCB’s Solution Center is your 24/7 resource, which is part of your NFCB membership. And NFCB also has staff to support you.
