In the event of an emergency, a volunteer may need to record interviews off-site using a cell phone, without a mic or mixer setup. What are your options?
To record from your computer’s base setup, there are a variety of apps. There are also tools, which have recording features/add-ons, as well as individual URLs and phone numbers you can conference guests into. Popular names in this space include Skype, Google Hangouts and Zoom.
Should you stay with your telephone or another protocol? Video platforms, generally, provide better audio quality than a phone, but their feasibility may be determined by technical ability and Internet connectivity.
NFCB offers a tutorial on how your volunteers can use smartphones to record phone interviews. Member stations can get these resources in the NFCB Solution Center. If your station is not yet a member, you can join here.
