Elizabeth Jensen serves as the public’s representative to the NPR newsroom, responding to listener and reader questions and criticisms. She writes a regular column that appears on NPR.org, bringing transparency to NPR’s journalism and journalism ethics, and answers thousands of emails annually.

Prior to her NPR appointment in January 2015, she spent decades reporting on the media industry. She covered public broadcasting as a contributor to The New York Times, wrote for the Columbia Journalism Review and was a regular contributor to Current, the public broadcasting trade publication. She also reported on the media as a staff writer at The Los Angeles Times, was a senior writer for Brill’s Content, and spent six years at The Wall Street Journal, where she was part of a team of reporters honored with a Sigma Delta Chi public service award.

When not covering media, Jensen has occasionally reported on the food world and taught food journalism at New York University; her favorite story remains a newsmagazine investigation into vegetarian marshmallow fraud for CNBC.

In 2005, Jensen received a Kiplinger Fellowship in Public Affairs Journalism at The Ohio State University, focusing her research on media politicization. She has her M.A. in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, where she spent her second year at Geneva’s L’Institut universitaire de hautes études internationales, and received her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.
