NFCB will be exploring two of community radio’s big issues in a pair of sit-down conversations.

The 2017 Community Media Conference happens July 17-19. At the event, we’ll be hosting plenary conversations on matters affecting many stations: managing change and diversity.

How stations are responsive to communities and the changing environment is the topic of the conference’s Tuesday plenary. Digital streaming, podcasting, shifts in governance and fundraising are creating new pressures for stations of all sizes. How do you retain the listeners you have, and create conversations that attract new donors? How can you create a culture that is open to change? Our panelists will examine these topics and more.

The diversity and community media plenary tackles the elephant in the room for many stations: how to engage communities of color and youth as stations’ core audiences and in leadership. Our plenary will talk openly about ways of improving the community media space for equity and justice.
