A critical comment period for low-power FM ends this week.

On June 13, REC Networks filed a Petition for Rulemaking with the FCC. This petition addresses many of the issues that was raised by REC in the Media Modernization proceeding of 2017. The petition has been assigned RM-11810 from the FCC. You can read information about MB Docket 17-105 here.

In REC’s assessment, RM-11810 will offer LPFM stations more opportunities in the event they need to move or change channels and permit power increases to better serve their local communities. In addition, RM-11810 provides anti-interference measures to existing broadcast facilities, and provides a more level playing field with FM translators and does so in a way that meets the statutory requirements of the Local Community Radio Act.

Comments are being taken until July 19. Those with perspectives on this issue are encouraged to make your voice heard. Visit REC’s page for talking points. You may file your comments here. Remember to select proceeding RM-11810.
