As April Fool’s Day creeps up on us, please remember the rules that cover pranks.
FCC rules prohibit broadcasting false information if it is likely to cause substantial public harm and if, in fact, harm occurs. In addition, pranks in the form of blind calls should be avoided. Phone calls that do not first advise of broadcast or taping for future broadcast cannot be used over the air.
More information on broadcast rules is available to member stations at NFCB’s Solution Center. If you are not yet a member, you can join today.
