Allies Call for Greater Investment in Local Journalism

This week, NFCB joined a coalition representing more than 3,000 local newsrooms, funders of local journalism, and civil society organizations advocating for a healthy free press, to urge Congress to bolster support for America’s community news organizations in the infrastructure bill.

The American Jobs Plan, the latest infrastructure legislation, can be utilized to help local communities thrive by reinvigorating local news, NFCB and allies contend. “It has been an honor for me to participate in this broad coalition of organizations who understand the essential nature of local news in the health of a democracy,” said NFCB CEO Sally Kane. “In the aftermath of so much societal disruption, we simply have to find a way to preserve our fourth estate and the critical role it plays in helping citizens make decisions that affect their daily lives, their health, and their safety.”
