When Nathan Moore was nine years old, he was on his first live broadcast. TV, no less. He was in the studio audience for an episode of Mr. Cartoon, a local TV personality who played cartoons for kids. Mr. Cartoon wore a goofy suit and had a sidekick named Beeper who wore a big, furry, green & red costume. In hindsight, Beeper was pretty creepy looking, but we didn’t care. Between cartoons, they’d goof off and ask the kids riddles. Later, Nathan realized that Jule Huffman (Mr. Cartoon’s real name) was a regular guy who went to the same church as him.
For the last 27 years, Nathan has been a regular guy doing some live broadcasting. Since 2011, he has worked as the General Manager at WTJU 91.1 FM at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He launched and serves as staff advisor for UVA’s student-run station WXTJ 100.1 FM. He has also launched the community podcast network Virginia Audio Collective and the nonprofit organization Virginia College Radio Alliance. He does not have a sidekick named Beeper. Yet.
