For all its power, radio has its limitation in being predominantly a one-way communication platform. Outside of call-in radio there are few opportunities for listener engagement that would create community involvement and the ability for listeners to actively participate in dialogs. Additionally, many community stations and LPFMs have very limited reach to audiences and they need methods of reaching listeners outside of their broadcast range. How does new media enhance community radio? How do we build an infrastructure that attracts young people who often do not own or listen to terrestrial radio? This workshop explores ways in which the Internet, smartphones, video, and Web pages can enhance listenership and two-way communications. Flex your collaborative muscle and participate in a peer discussion that paves the way for sharing technologies and applications, so that every station does not have to develop their own solutions.
