Featuring Laura Schnitker (University of Maryland), Mike Lupica (WPRB) and Jennifer Waits
Moderator: Nathan Moore

Content is about creating something new, but it is also about using and expanding on a vast body of work that already exists in community radio. This panel will dive into archived content and what the future holds for stations that use it. Laura Schnitker, curator of the National Public Radio Archives, will talk about recent digitization of 600 historic broadcasts from the NFCB’s Program Exchange and present some creative ways that stations can use the audio in the here and now. Mike Lupica, station advisor at WPRB at Princeton University, will add to the discussion with tips for working with both students and staff to balance high programming standards with the experimentation that has defined freeform since its inception. Rounding out the panel is Jennifer Waits, independent scholar, college radio historian and writer. She will present her perspectives on the future of community radio based on her visits to over 150 college/high school/community stations, with particular focus on the recent surge in LPFM stations.
