Station Assessments

NFCB can do station assessments to evaluate governance, management, programming, development, operations and the technical set-up of a station. These assessments are often done with support from the CPB Audience Challenge Fund when stations are having a problem meeting the Audience Service Criteria. We tailor the assessment to the current needs of the station. Typically an assessment would include:

°  Establish goals with the manager and board president

°  Interview staff, board and volunteers

°  Acquire audience research

°  Review of air checks sent by the station

°  On-site visit from two or three NFCB staff/consultants (NFCB CEO, Development Specialist, Engineering Consultant). Would include meeting with Board and staff and touring facilities.

°  Written assessment of what is working well, what can be improved, suggestions for improvement, interpretation of audience research, critique of air checks, comprehensive suggestion for development plan and technical assessment.

The cost is typically $10,000 for Participant Members plus expenses. This can be tailored to the specific needs and budget of the station.
